We thought it would be fun to take the handheld clicker that bouncers have at nightclubs and give one to everyone. That way they could record every time they “Clicked” with the ladies.
The day after we talked to Lynx about the idea they went out and ordered 2 million of the little silver thingies complete with Lynx Click branding.
That done we set about starting the craze. Cue Hollywood star Ben Affleck and a Cinema campaign where Ben uses his ’clicker’ to record any recognition from women.
Funny thing is though, as popular as Ben is, a humble maintenance guy gets more clicks. He’s cleverly been using Lynx Click Body Spray.
Next was to design a website where Clickers could start their own community comparing scores and designing and personalising their own clickers. There was even a competition with the chance to win limited-edition clickers designed by David Beckham's tattoo artist Louis Malloy and cult graffiti artist Dface. They soon ran out and were quickly for sale on EBay.
The third wave cantered around spreading the craze to as many as people as possible.
We did this in two ways.
The first centred on creating as much publicity around Ben Affleck as possible and letting the lads mags run spreads on all the girls he’s flirted with in the ad.
Secondly we created a press and poster campaign with as many ambient ideas as our imagination came up with.
The result, a body spray campaign that went beyond traditional marketing and created a real buzz around the brand. Something our audience could actively take part in and enjoy.
